My usual disclaimer:
Let me state, this is really based on authors or series that I'm already reading since those are the things I follow. I'm not paid to write this blog nor do I have any affiliations with any publishers so I don't receive free books or advance notice of things except what I glean off Facebook from people who do have those contacts or what I research on my own (which again, leads back to authors that I'm already reading). Maybe someday I'll be one of those who has the contacts and gets ARCs but it's not today.
So I'm still massively behind in reading the new books that I keep buying. Life has gotten so much busier although I'm not altogether sure how but I think it's been spending a lot more time with friends and now with our new dog there is a LOT of time spent outside walking her which is definitely not helping me get more reading done. That doesn't mean that I'm not going to find time to start getting to some of these books that I post about. Thankfully there isn't a ton coming out this quarter so maybe I can start making a dent in the backlog.
Legend Has It by Elliot James is first up. The fifth book in the Pax Arcana series. I'm a book behind right now but this one definitely looks cool with the villain reading a magic book that is changing the world around him to match his fantasies. Hmmm...
Release date: April 18
Next up is Snared by Jennifer Estep, book 16 in the Elemental Assassin series. I've just started reading book 15 and it looks like the new long term plot line with the Circle will be continuing for a bit.
Release Date: April 25
Cold Reign by Faith Hunter kicks off the next month. Again, I'm a book behind in the series *sigh* but this next one looks to be seriously a** kickin'. Leo is under threat (again) but this time from revenants that should never have risen which means there is much more magical mojo going on than Jane has ever dealt with before.
Release date: May 2
The second book in the Hidden Legacy series, White Hot by Ilona Andrews, ended up being delayed a while so it's nice to see that not only is it coming out this year but the third will be coming out a few months after. This is definitely a paranormal romance series but the world is intriguing and they are definitely working to have a reason for the characters to have a relationship which is something I definitely appreciate.
Release date: May 30
Down Among the Sticks and Bones by Seanan McGuire wraps up this quarter's new releases. A follow-up to Every Heart a Doorway, this is the backstory of the twin girls, Jack and Jill, who found that love isn't always enough and choices can be tricky things.
Release date: June 13
I have loved to read ever since I can remember. I'm glad to have you join me on my journey!

83:120 Fearless by Elliott James
The third book in the Pax Arcana series. Ted Cahill is now sheriff in a small college town when strange things start happening so he puts a call in to Sig and the team comes. As they start investigating, all signs start pointing to someone using magic against a student, Kevin Kachida, and doesn't care about innocent bystanders. To protect Kevin and stop this person, John and the team are going to have to go deep into the supernatural underground and deal with bigger forces than they ever have before.
I found this one a bit less fun than the previous ones. They are focusing on an outside threat to someone they didn't know before and for no reason other than to stop casualties. It meant that the team basically split up for the entire book which meant very little character or team growth. It was much more of a basic action/adventure story and the characters really could have been any one. I have the next one in the series but I'm taking a break after this one.

66:120 Daring by Elliot James
The 2nd book in the Pax Arcana series. John is still being chased by the Knights and knows the only way to keep his friends safe, now that he has some, is to give himself up and try to make a deal with them. However, his plan runs into problems when Sig contacts the new Werewolf pack in North America that has made itself well known to the Knights and not in a good way. In exchange for their help, Sig has promised that John will undergo their initiation and give a good try at joining the pack. The Knights love the idea of John being on the inside and John must decide where his loyalties actually lie.
John continues to stay basically true to his own moral code which is confusing but somehow fairly consistent even in the midst of some truly crazy stuff. Of course, Sig comes back in the 3rd act after telling John she needed time to get her head on straight. It's not but it was thoroughly predictable that she would be back. On the whole, it was trying to do twists and turns but they were pretty well telegraphed and nothing really surprised me. I do like the characters and it wasn't a bad story but I felt like it suffered from trying too hard with no success.

18:120 Charming by Elliott James
Book 1 in the Pax Arcana series. John Charming comes from a long line of protectors for the humans, now known as the Knights Templar. However, he has been running from that order for a while now as he is part werewolf and that taint outweighs his bloodline. His current life is as a bartender in the small town of Clayburg. He is doing his best to lie low when a Valkyrie walks into the bar followed shortly after by a vampire. That's when things get a bit weird. Next thing he knows, he has taken out the vampire and a few of his friends and is now being approached by Sig, the Valkyrie, to help her small band of monster hunters figure out another supernatural problem. John wants to say no but something deep inside says yes for him instead.
It was an interesting take on supernaturals in modern times. Male protagonist so not as common in my urban fantasy reads. I felt it was a bit rough and I'm not 100% sold on the series but the world was interesting enough that I'll give the second book a chance. Hopefully the read will be a bit smoother and a bit more gripping with less explaining needing to be done.
